Homeless man and religions.
Last night, Jasperina and I were walking home after just ordering sushi. We came across this homeless man, who politely asked us to make a donation of 3-5 dollars in exchange for a newspaper, so he could buy some food. He was the nicest man, I swear. He sounded very pleasant. The night was really cold too, I felt so bad! I automatically check my pockets, only to remember that I had no cash on me. D: D: D:
Jasperina pulled out his wallet and warmly gave the man a 10 dollar bill.
The homeless man was really nice and thankful, saying that “there are Christians here at Davis that still care. There really are Christians here!” with a big smile.
Well, I’m Buddhist, and my boyfriend doesn’t really believe in one religion. It was a bit funny in my mind, but I didn’t quite think about it until afterwards when we got home. Oh yeah, and this isn’t big of a deal, but he was African American. I just felt the need to mention it because of many ridiculous remarks from some ignorant people that would have judged him because of his race or something. But then again, Davis is a very friendly town. I don’t know if I would’ve felt safe doing the same if I were in, iuno, Oakland. ‘Cause skin color doesn’t matter. White, brown, black, or yellow, it don’t matter. If you’re shady, you is shady and I’m bouta avoid you like the plague if I see you stalking the streets at night with a shady looking character. But anyway, continuing with my religion thoughts. You don’t have to be a certain religion to have a kind heart. He automatically assumed, so he has some thinking to do too.
After bidding the man a good night and parting ways, my boyfriend and I shared our stories about volunteering and helping homeless people. He told me he used to buy homeless people coffee and food when he went on lonely night time bike rides. He liked to directly hand them warm coffee and see them smile. I noticed that he has such a kind heart, albeit a little lonely. He has such a good heart. I’m really glad I met someone like him.
